From 1995/96 to 2002/03 the Premiers Cup competition was played as a knock out competition (3 rounds) between the 1st grade premiers from each of the 6 Gippsland Associations from the previous season. The defending Champion of the Premiers Cup was also invited to participate to make up 8 teams. In 2003/04 the competition was officially in recess.
In season 2004/05 VCCL Region 7 resurrected a competition under the name of the Kookaburra Cup. This competition takes the two most successful teams from across all the Gippsland Associations from the one-day games played in the various Associations. The top two teams play off for the title.
Stratford CC competed in the Premiers Cup on 2 separate occasions and played 2 magnificent games. in 2001/02 we were drawn to play BDCA premier West Bairnsdale CC in round 1 at Stratford. We struggled with the bat and only managed 120 before we were bowled out. The game seemed all but over as West Bairnsdale flew to 80 inside the first 15 overs. Enter Aaron "Aero" Smith. Aero turned the game completely on its head bagging 5 for 8 in an amazing spell of pace bowling. However this was still not enough as West passed us 8 down.
2003/04 and our 2nd time round we managed to bypass round 1 courtesy of a wash out and a lucky coin toss. In round 2 we met LDCA powerhouse Wonthaggi Workman CC at their home. Despite Neil Tattersons unbeaten 143 the game finished in a tie and this time we lost the all important coin toss and were knocked out of the comp.
2015/16 we met WDCA Premier Drouin in the final at Stratford. Drouin batting first scored 137 before they were all out in the 43rd over. Jack Rietschel was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 46 off 9.3 overs. Jack Tatterson, Taylor Tatterson, Simon Williams, Zac Penn and Travis Millar all picked up one wicket each. Drouin captain Trevor Gardiner top scored with 42 while Rhys Fairlie scored 41.
In reply we reached the required target seven wickets down. Chris Aurisch scored 21 while man of the match Cormac Hassett scored an unbeaten 50 to steer Stratford to their first Kookaburra Cup premiership in the clubs history!
